I decided to set the beginning of my film in the guys bedroom (for when he smokes weed.) I was in between my bedroom and my brothers. The picture above show my bedroom, I thought it would work well because on each wall I have hanging hippy patterned sheets - and stereotypically, stoners smoke in dingy dens with wall hangs. What I felt my room was missing however, was the dingy atmosphere. My light is too bright, my curtains are too thin and my wooden floor makes it look more fresh. My brothers room however, is very dark. (See picture below) It is also very simple in terms of what furniture he has, he just has a bed, bedside table, drawers and a TV. The decor is also more plain and typically male, rather than my room which is brightly coloured! So I chose my brothers room over mine.
To make it more 'druggie' like, I simply changed the curtains and put one of my wall hangs up there instead. The pattern on it I thought would also work really well for a trippy camera shot. I put my blanket on his bed, graffitied some of his furniture and placed litter around.
I made some fake drugs to put on his table, these were some paracetamols in a transparent plastic bag to look like Ecstasy Tablets.
I used chives and tobacco to make it look as though Sam was smoking cannabis. I planted the fake spliff on his table aswell.
I also thought I could use this shisha pipe, which is an apparatus that can be used to smoke drugs but it is most commonly used to smoke flavoured natural herbs. It looks slightly like a bong so I think it will fit in well with my junkie bedroom setting.
After looking at different locations used in drug films I decided to go for a location outside in the countryside. I went to three different places and took photographs in order to get a feel for what work best. I knew it would have to have somewhere to sit, because in my film the couple could sit down and have their photograph taken.
This is a bench at the bottom of our garden, it looks like it is in a public place though so I thought I could get away with using it. The benefits of using my garden as the location is that I do not have to travel anywhere with my actors to film.
It also works in the way that when Sam runs away with the camera, he can easily escape through our gate and in any direction!
(this is a view from outside the gate)
2ND IDEA FOR LOCATION; The pond behind my house, where there is a bench facing the water directly and several paths around it that Sam could use to run away.
because the bench is facing the pond it gives the couple a purpose to be sitting on the bench- they are admiring the beauty of the water! The problem is that there is no way Sam could walk past them sitting on the bench because you cannot walk to the right of the bench (the pond is there!) So although there would be lots of routes for him to run down and hide (as you can see in the photos here) I would have to change the storyline and figure out a new way for the couple to spot Sam and ask him to take a photo for them.
MY THIRD LOCATION IDEA.
These photo's were taken at Gosfield Nature Reserve. I found a bench that is also facing a pond but this time, with a path directly in front for Sam to walk by! The photo below is the view from the bench. The nature reserve is really big so I am sure I could find lots of places to film the chase, there are many paths and many hidden locations for Sam to hide. I will definitely be using this!!
